200 YEARS IN ONE
In 2018, Saint Louis University turned 200 years old. While typical universities would use the moment to chest beat, that wasn’t in SLU’s Jesuit nature. Instead, we helped them issue a challenge to double their impact by giving back 200 year’s worth of community service all in just one year.
We installed a 20-foot-long clock on campus to keep track of how many hours, days, months and years of community service had been given back.
An app allowed volunteers to add their contributions to the clock in real-time. And once submitted, they could share out a custom image of their service tagged with the year it helped reach.
Throughout the bicentennial, we posted historic moments in SLU’s history on social and shared posts from volunteers that reached the same year.
The Final Tally
On November 14th, 2018, the Challenge officially ended with the community exceeding the original goal of 200 years of service by more than 25 years.
